Andermatt sits in the Urseren valley at the north portal of the Gotthard, which is the whole explanation of the route. It is high, it is reached by a single road up from Göschenen, and it has changed from a garrison town into a resort inside one generation.
For a transfer that means two different journeys wearing the same name: the Gotthard axis, which is motorway and busy, and the Schöllenen climb at the end, which is neither.
