Klosters is reached by road year-round, up the Prättigau from Landquart, and it is one of the easier alpine destinations for exactly that reason: there is no pass between it and the motorway.

What sits at Klosters is the Vereina car train, which loads at Selfranga and runs through to the Engadin. It is not needed to reach Klosters itself, but it is the reason a Klosters transfer sometimes turns into an Engadin one, and it is worth knowing the loading times before the day rather than at the ramp.

The road

The A3 to Sargans and the A13 to Landquart, then the valley road up the Prättigau through Küblis to Klosters. Davos is a further quarter of an hour over the Wolfgang pass, which is low and kept open.

Winter on this route

The Prättigau road is a main access route and is cleared as one. Snow slows the last stretch rather than closing it. Winter tyres from October, SUV class recommended between December and March, and the ski box is fitted from November.

Yes. It is the reliable way through when the Julier is difficult, and the desk checks the loading schedule before committing to a departure time.

Is Klosters ever cut off in winter?

The access from Landquart is a priority road and closures are rare and short. The passes above it are a different matter.

Can you take skis and boot bags for a family of five?

Yes — that is the Van class with a ski box, and it is worth telling the desk the count so the box goes on before the car leaves Kloten.
