The airport is in Kloten, not in Zürich, and the run into the city is the shortest journey we price. It is also the one where the fare is set by the class minimum rather than by the kilometres — below a certain distance the tariff stops falling, because a chauffeur, a licensed vehicle and an hour of included waiting cost what they cost.

What varies here is not the road. It is the hour. The same journey is a quarter of an hour at eleven in the morning and closer to forty minutes at half past five, and a pickup timed off the flight rather than off the clock is the only version that survives both.

The road

The A51 south from the airport, then either the Milchbuck tunnel for the centre and the west bank, or the A1 and A3 for Enge, Wollishofen and the Gold Coast. A dispatcher chooses between them on the morning, not at booking.

Winter on this route

No alpine exposure and nothing that closes. Winter tyres are fitted from October to April as policy rather than necessity, and the only weather effect worth planning around is the extra ten minutes the whole canton takes on the first serious snowfall of the season.

How long does the chauffeur wait if the flight is late?

Sixty minutes after the aircraft is on the ground, at no charge. The desk watches the inbound and moves the pickup with it, so a delayed flight does not spend that hour.

Is a private chauffeur worth it over a taxi for a fifteen-minute run?

For one traveller with hand luggage, often not. It is worth it when the arrival has to be certain — a client being met, a board member on a tight connection, or luggage that will not fit a saloon.

Can you collect from a hotel or an office rather than the airport?

Yes. City pickups are priced by the hour rather than by the route; the desk quotes both and says which is cheaper for what you are actually doing.
