Zermatt lies at the head of the Mattertal beneath the Matterhorn, and the village is closed to visitors' cars. A private transfer therefore ends at Täsch, the last village visitors can reach by car, and the final stretch is a short ride on the shuttle train.
From the arrivals hall to Täsch the journey is one car, one chauffeur and one fare, with no change of vehicle until the train. The fare is calculated per kilometre by car class and fixed before you book. If you give us the flight number, the pick-up follows your landing.
Below you will find the fare, the road, the cars, and what dispatch needs from you. Anything outside the published fares, such as the return from Zermatt, is quoted per route.
The fixed fare to Täsch, for Zermatt
In a Business Class car (Mercedes E-Class or equivalent) the fare is CHF 1,500 for the whole car, with 8.1% VAT added as its own line. Premium Class (Mercedes S-Class or equivalent) is CHF 1,750, the SUV (Mercedes GLE or equivalent) is CHF 1,750, and the Business Van (Mercedes V-Class or equivalent) is CHF 1,500. The figures are per car, not per passenger, and they cover the drive from the airport to Täsch.
The fare comes from the distance and the class rate, is stated before you book and does not move afterwards. The shuttle train from Täsch to Zermatt is not part of it. The fare includes:
- Waiting and luggage handling
- Tolls and the Swiss motorway vignette
- Child seats, fitted before the journey at no charge
- Sixty minutes of waiting after landing
- Passenger insurance
The drive to Täsch
The distance is 250 km and the drive takes about 2 h 40 min. From the airport the route leaves the Zürich area by motorway, crosses into the Valais and finishes up the Mattertal valley from Visp to Täsch. The chauffeur chooses the way that suits the day. Both figures are for the drive to Täsch, so the shuttle train comes on top.
The last stretch is a valley road with bends and a steady climb, and the chauffeur drives it at the pace the surface allows. From October to April every car runs winter tyres, and after snowfall the Mattertal is where the journey slows. Allow some margin if you have a dinner or a guide to reach, and tell dispatch about it when you book.
Which car for Zermatt
Business Class seats three with three cases; a fourth passenger fits if the luggage is light. Premium Class seats three, with two cases. The SUV seats four with four cases and has all-wheel drive, which is why it is the car we send for ski weeks.
The Business Van seats seven with seven cases and suits families, delegations and anyone travelling with ski bags. Because the last leg is by train, luggage matters twice: it has to fit the car and then the shuttle. Tell dispatch the number of cases and ski bags, and ask what the handover at Täsch will involve. For larger groups dispatch quotes a minibus or coach.
Meeting the chauffeur and booking
The chauffeur waits inside arrivals, and sixty minutes of waiting after landing are included in the fare. Give the flight number when you book: the inbound flight is tracked and the pick-up moves with it at no charge, so a delayed landing changes neither the fare nor the plan.
Fares are published for pick-ups at Zürich Airport. The return from Täsch or Zermatt, a pick-up at any other address, at Basel or Geneva airport, and journeys abroad are quoted per route by dispatch. To book, dispatch needs:
- Flight number and landing date
- Your hotel or chalet in Zermatt, so the plan fits the train and the village
- Number of passengers and cases
- Child seats, skis or boards, if any
Zermatt is car-free: the car stops at Täsch
Zermatt is car-free, so a private transfer, ours included, cannot drive you into the village. The road ends at Täsch, where a shuttle train runs up the valley to Zermatt station. That is a fact about the village, not a limit of the service, but it shapes the journey and we would rather say so before you book than at the kerb.
The shuttle train is run by the railway, not by us, and its ticket is not part of our fare. Ask your hotel how it receives guests and luggage at Zermatt station, and give dispatch the name of the hotel so that the timing of the whole journey can be planned. A stop on the way, or an onward leg to another valley, is a different route and dispatch quotes it separately.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the transfer from Zürich Airport to Zermatt take?
The drive to Täsch is about 2 h 40 min for 250 km, with the shuttle train to Zermatt on top. The last stretch is a valley road, so allow extra margin after snowfall and tell dispatch if you have a fixed commitment on arrival.
How much does a private transfer from Zürich Airport to Zermatt cost?
CHF 1,500 in a Business Class car, CHF 1,750 in Premium Class, CHF 1,750 in the SUV and CHF 1,500 in the Business Van, all net of 8.1% VAT. The fare is for the car, covers the drive to Täsch and is fixed before you book.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Give us the flight number when you book. We track the inbound flight and the pick-up moves with it at no charge, and sixty minutes of waiting after landing are included.
Can I bring skis, luggage and child seats?
Infant, toddler and booster seats are fitted before the journey at no charge. Tell dispatch how many cases and how many pairs of skis or boards you have, so that the class is right the first time; the Business Van takes a ski box from November.
How do I pay for the transfer?
Online by card or TWINT, to the chauffeur on the day, or arranged with dispatch on WhatsApp. Any cancellation charge is stated when the booking is confirmed, and corporate clients are invoiced monthly.
Can the car take us all the way into Zermatt?
No. Zermatt is car-free, so the journey ends at Täsch and the last leg is by shuttle train. The train ticket is separate from our fare.
Can you collect us in Zermatt for the return to the airport?
Yes, as a separate journey. Published fares apply to pick-ups at Zürich Airport, so dispatch quotes the return per route: send the date, the time of your flight and the hotel.
